Youth HIV/AIDS Prevention Project – Through various existing and proposed platforms—Project HOPE’s Village Health Banks, established and newly formed youth groups, health committees, public discourse, mass media, an existing cadre of trained health volunteers, and through local community and traditional leaders – this three year project aims to deploy the best practices in HIV prevention with an emphasis on abstinence and being faithful (‘A&B’). The program focuses on vulnerable, at-risk youth (10-24 years old).
Sustainable Strengthening of Families of OVC Project – This five year project uses Project HOPE’s Village Health Bank methodology to provide economic sustainability and services to households with orphans and vulnerable children (OVC). Project HOPE is providing small loans to individuals, targeting health and life skills education to OVC, their families and staff and volunteers of community and faith-based organizations and developing, expanding and linking a network of local partners who provide services to OVC and their families.

Child Survival/Reproductive Health Project – Based in Gaza Province and in partnership with Save the Children, this project addresses high infant and maternal mortality due to malaria, malnutrition, pneumonia, diarrhea, immunizable disease, and complications during pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum by strengthening health systems at the provincial, district and community levels, and by enhancing the linkages between district health services and community level needs and resources. The project concentrates on technical, logistical, and material support to Provincial and District Health Officials, specifically the clinical and community elements of childhood illness management as identified by the World Health Organization, including maternal health and reproductive health. In addition to strengthening Provincial and District health systems, the project will build community capacity to identify and prioritize health problems, and plan and implement community-defined solutions.
Village Health Banks – A provincial survey administered in the Zambezia province of Mozambique in December 2001 revealed that only 13 percent of women have a functional understanding of HIV/AIDS and its means of spreading. In response, HOPE began a new initiative, called “Economic Empowerment as a Means to Mitigating HIV/AIDS and It’s Impacts,” which is establishing a series of new women’s village loan groups (Village Health Banks). The mission is three-fold: 1.) providing the economic catalyst needed to build the family’s finance foundation while 2.) empowering thousands of women with relevant HIV/AIDS education and 3.) providing a forum for those women to reach out to literally thousands of their community members with this information.
