Project HOPE in United States
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in the fall of 2005, Project HOPE agreed to apply its international health and humanitarian assistance expertise to addressing the overwhelming needs created by the greatest natural disaster in US history. Project HOPE's response included short-term aid in the form of donated medicines, medium-term aid in the form of volunteer health professionals, and long-term aid in the form of health facility rebuilding and equipping.
Project HOPE's primary focus since the hurricane has been on helping residents of the Mississippi Coast, in partnership with the local nonprofit Coastal Family Health Center. A HOPE/CFHC collaboration has now resulted in the opening of a new community health clinic serving residents of the town of Moss Point, Mississippi, which suffered severe loss and damage from Katrina. HOPE and CFHC have also partneredin the creation and equipping of a mobile dental clinic to serve low-income populations impacted by the hurricane. Learn More
