Central Eastern Europe : Bosnia

Equipment Donation Program – With the assistance of Project HOPE's national organization based in Japan, medical equipment is being donated to Bosnia. Ultrasounds, X-ray machines, ECGs, defibrillators, laboratory equipment and dental equipment have been donated to Bosnia hospitals and primary health care clinics. 

Humanitarian Assistance – Project HOPE’s current focus for humanitarian aid is the Republika Srpska. To date, this program has shipped over $ 5 million worth of essential drugs, vaccines, medical texts and some small equipment donations to two logistics centres based in the Republika Srpska. From these logistics centres the shipments are disbursed to clinics, hospitals and humanitarian pharmacies where people can obtain these much-needed medications.

Timeline

1992 operations in Bosnia begin with extensive equipment and humanitarian assistance donations in response to the Bosnian war
1997 Pediatric Physical Rehabilitation program trains physical and occupational therapists, doctors, teachers, kindergarten and orphanage staff, NGO volunteers, and families of children with disabilities to improve their theoretical knowledge and practical skills when caring for special needs children
1999 Continuous Medical Education Program focuses on doctors and nurses working in primary health clinics
2000 Project HOPE organizes the country’s first conference for pediatric rehabilitation professionals
2001 Family Medicine Implementation program transformed three existing health clinics into family medicine centers
2003 Western Balkans AIDS program focuses on prevention of HIV
